My interview in "Finance On Windows"

I was fortunate to be invited for an interview in the global magazine "Finance On Windows" (the digital edition can be found here). The interview, titled "The Forefront of Innovation", focused on the role of the Atos Scientific Community and my role as a track leader, focussing on Cloud Computing.

(Paul...) has a personal interest in alternative delivery models and cloud computing in particular. When asked if he considers cloud computing to be transformational, he explains that it depends on one’s definition of the term. "If you consider cloud computing to be a means of standardising IT, it isn’t particularly transformational," he says. "But if it is seen as a means of allowing IT to behave as a service, then that is very significant indeed.

New job

 

Already a bit old but still exciting news: On September 1, 2011, I started my new job at Atos International; Global Business Development Director - More travels, more challenges, new colleagues.

I will be looking after the development of the Siemens Global Alliance in two major areas:

• Cloud Computing and
• Healthcare Systems

 

I am very excited about this opportunity and looking forward to getting the inspiration to restart my blogging (its about time….)

Away on holiday. Restart in late August 2011.

Gathering the material….Rethinking the strategy.

So much to do.

We all have our roles to play - but put yourself on the grid of 1000 and see what steps, decision makers, and influence impact you have on a technology buying decision. I do it all the time on transactions I help with. It is a humbling experience to see how little I individually - and for that matter all other influencers and advisors - have in the decision.

I had a meeting with Bob Muglia today

 

Today I had the privilege to spend 1.5 hour in a 1-on-1 meeting with Bob Muglia from Microsoft.

We talked a lot about BPOS, the Microsoft Azure services and the relationship to the Atos Origin business model. Some of the conversation was under NDA, so it cannot be shared here.

But I must say that Microsoft has a clear vision with their online portfolio and there are significant opportunities for partners.

Bob Muglia is a member of Microsoft's Senior Leadership Team that is responsible for shaping the company's business and technology strategy, so you can imagine I felt pretty inspired by this conversation.

Apple Buys Siri

On February 10, 2010, I blogged about Siri and called it “the next chapter of the web”? Well it seems I was not alone in thinking this was a big thing. On April 28, 2010, Apple announced they bought Siri for a undisclosed amount of money (educated guess? between 100 and 200 million dollars).

Some will say this is about Apple going into the ‘search business’ – but I believe it is not that what interests Apple. Their strategy is to create platforms that integrate the web and Siri does exactly that. I have seen the term API-broker or info-orchestration. This kind of strategy allows Apple to build the best platform and have the information infrastructure to make it profitable. With so much experiences in online stores with mini-transactions, we can see a new business model emerging.

In fact, is there really a lot of difference in bringing entertainment content or any other content to a web store? Buying a new song, movie, theater or restaurant reservation is basically all the same. The combination, presented in a very user-friendly way to the consumer brings added value and access to millions of users will reinforce the value.
